| I think it depends on the sport. Track and field I think is one where the top 3 should be honored since they often have to beat out such a large field. Some of the team sports I think first place is enough to recognize. It all depends on the game being played in my opinion.

I agree with it depending on which sport it is. I like the idea of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in individual sports because it recognizes the top three best efforts put forth. I think this gives encouragement for the 2nd and 3rd place winners to do better next time.
