More and more I am seeing that London, in their bid for the Olympics, didn't think things through well. They are now looking into a third venue for the shooting events, having ruled out Bisley, and because Woolwich looks to be too expensive (more than double the estimate).

You'd have thought that they would have thought this out before bidding for it.

I would assume that Bisley was the plan originally. I can understand that it would need some negotiation, but come on! This is the Olympics we are talking about! Would the clubs that use the range really object to their country hosting the Olympic shooting there?

I know someone somewhere is upset about this going on and the person footing the bill I am sure is not that tickled about it either. Is it possible they were in such a rush to host it all they just forgot?

I think that usually it's all about winning the bid to be the host country that is important.  The major planning and considerations happen afterwards.

There is rather a lot of talk about the UK underbidding, or underestimating the costs. I'm not sure what good it would have done them but the suggestions are that it was deliberate.

I think its screwy that an estimate can jump by double but I can kind of understand too. Everyone seems to need to raise prices to make sure their services are sold otherwise there is no biz.

It does sound like more planning should have been done before makng a bid of the Olympics.  However, it is possible that they had discussed with the venue the possibility of hosting the event but had not discussed the price, leaving the venue open to play with the price tag.

It seems like they just went with brainstorming efforts instead of actual estimates. Hopefully they get things sorted soon, this isn't something that can wait til a month from the games.
