There was an article posted on ESPNsoccernet this weekend regarding Inter Milan striker, Mario Balotelli, and his biological parents. Apparently, Balotelli was put up for adoption when he was three and, according to him, he has had absolutely no contact with them for the past 16 years. His biological parents appeared in the newspaper holding an Inter shirt and commented that they were "saddened" at being unable to be a part of his life. But the Palermo-born player blasted: "For 16 years I didn't even receive a phone call on my birthday, but now they make contact after I have become a Serie A footballer. "There is no bond between us and in my eyes they are just strangers," Balotelli concluded.
Go, Colts!!

| I thought most all adoptions were closed at least until age the of 18 so maybe they were opened recently? It seems kind of dumb as well to be a fan only when your child amounts to something.

| I think its terrible when they just do it to cash in like that. Open adoptions are ok if the parents plan on staying involved, if they plan on having some sort of contact. But this is just opportunistic, and nothing else. Horrible for him.

| It really doesn't matter why the adoption was open or why they lost contact. In fact, the article doesn't say they contacted Balotelli, the article says they contacted the newspaper.

| Right, but if the adoption had been closed, they wouldn't have known where the child went, or had any clue that this sports star was their biological child. They may suspect, but would have no real evidence.

| Balotelli could well do without a 'complication' in life like this at this time but I am glad he has figured it out for what it obviously is.

| That is sad that parents could be so venal. I don't blame him for saying they are nothing but strangers as it is contemptible to come forward in such an obviously gold-digging way.

| Well yes, they are just strangers because he's never met them before. What's more they left him once, so why would he want to be all buddy buddy with them now that they show up with a motive?
